There’s a Best library of content that already exists, and with this huge list of upcoming Nintendo Switch games and it’s release dates for 2018, there are plenty of fantastic games that you need to wishlist right now.

It’s already been a great year for Switch, and we struggled to whittle down the current selection of titles to just 25 best Nintendo Switch games, especially after losing months to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, going mad with collecting Power Moons in Super Mario Odyssey, dabbling with DOOM and got seriouslytruffle hungry in Stardew Valley.

However, this ever-growing list is focused on the upcoming Nintendo Switch games we’d really recommend, either because we’ve played them or they already exist on other platforms and are getting a Switch port.

Kirby Star Allies

Release date: March 16, 2018
Genre: Platformer

Kirby Star Allies nintendo switch games

Kirby Star Allies

Why is it so interesting? It’s been six years since Kirby got a bonafide adventure on consoles, and the upcoming,Kirby Star Allies aims to take the enemy-sucking and power-stealing gameplay the series is known for and finally giving it an HD makeover. You’ll also be able to join forces with up to three additional AI or player-controlled characters to help you solve puzzles and collect hidden goodies. Kirby’s been holding down the fort on 3DS for the past few years, so it’s great to see him back on consoles in proper form.

Nintendo Labo

Release date: April 20, 2018 (April 27, 2018 in Europe)
Genre: Cardboard

Nintendo Labo Release date: April 20, 2018 (April 27, 2018 in Europe) Genre: Cardboard

Nintendo Labo

Why is it so interesting? Nintendo’s reinventing gaming again, and this time it’s doing it with cardboard. The Nintendo Labo kits – known as Toy-Cons,  let you build your own cardboard peripherals for the Switch and then play games with them. Toy-Con kits range from motorbikes and RC cars, to actually playable pianos and robot monsters. It’s utterly bonkers just how awesome these little kits are, and what’s more the software lets you look at a cross-section of how it all works and fits together on your Nintendo Switch – as well as playing the actual games of course.

Next is Donkey Kong Country in the upcoming Nintendo Switch games list

Donkey Kong: Jungle Freeze

Release date: May 4, 2018
Genre:
 Platformer

Donkey Kong: Jungle Freeze

Donkey Kong: Jungle Freeze

Why is it so interesting? Widely regarded as one of the best games on the Wii U, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is now getting a Switch release. That means Donkey Kong and co will soon be taking over your Switch, and they’re bringing a new friend with them. Funky Kong as he’s known, is a Switch exclusive character who’s equipped with a surfboard that gives him some rather rad moves. And what’s more, it’s all playing in co-op now with the new Switch exclusive two-player mode. You’ll be monkeying around in no time

Dark Souls: Remastered

Release date: May 25, 2018
Genre:
 Action

Dark Souls: Remastered

Dark Souls: Remastered

Why is it interesting? Another huge AAA to launch on Switch is Dark Souls, and with this Dark Souls: Remastered package, you’re getting one of the toughest games of all time looking the best it ever has. It’s Dark Souls, on Switch, on the bus, on the plane, absolutely anywhere. Just prepare to die everywhere too

Next is Mario Tennis  Aces in the upcoming Nintendo Switch games release dates list

Mario Tennis Aces

Release date: Spring 2018
Genre: Tennis

Why is it so interesting? Mario Tennis is finally making its Switch debut, and hopefully bringing some snazzy motion controls with it. Switch Sports all the way! Apparently, it’s the most difficult Mario Tennis game ever, but it also brings the first story mode to a Mario Tennis game since the GBA title Mario Tennis: Power Tour. Mario Tennis Aces will throw tennis flavored boss battles at you, alongside a variety of missions. It also looks fantastic. Mario in those little tennis shorts looks a strange mixture of professional and adorable.

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition

Release date: Spring 2018
Genre:
Action/Adventure

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition

Why is it so interesting? Originally released on the Wii U, and later on 3DS with a slightly different title, Hyrule Warriors is a Dynasty Warriors-style battler featuring a tonne of your favorite Nintendo characters, and now even Link and Zelda from Breath of the Wild. Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition is better looking than before, features all the existing DLC too and can even be played with a pal thanks to the new two-player co-op feature. Shotgun Link.

Next is Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition in the upcoming Nintendo Switch games release dates list

Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition

Release date: Q1 2018
Genre: Point-and-click adventure

Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition

Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition

Why is it so interesting? This originally episodically released game first hit PC in 2013 but will land on Nintendo Switch as a complete package in early 2018 with all five episodes. It tells a tale about a truck driver called Conway who’s traveling along a secret highway in the caves beneath Kentucky and the people he meets. He’s trying to get to the fictional Route Zero to make his final delivery, but his journey is proving to be quite eventful.

Light Fingers

Release date: Q1 2018
Genre: Action/Board Games

light fingers

Why is it so interesting? : Light Fingers looks to be a brilliant blend of the turn-based card game and real-time stealth action title. And with lovely art style to boot. You’re all trying to score more loot than your friends in multiplayer, but before you can have the glory and the bragging rights you’ve got to get it all. We love the fact the world develops like a board game unfolding and it has a sword and sorcery feel to every pixel.

Next is Shakedown Hawaii  in the upcoming Nintendo Switch games release dates list

Shakedown Hawaii

Why is it so interesting? Retro City Rampage packed an entire GTA-sized world to explore inside a game that feels like it belongs on an NES cart. Now, VBlank is doing the same to the SNES world with Shakedown Hawaii. With more freedom of movement, more detailed sprites, more missions to complete, and an entire property management economy to take part in (or blow up), Shakedown Hawaii looks to improve on its predecessor in nearly every way.

Next is Flipping Death  in the upcoming Nintendo Switch games release dates list

Flipping Death

Release date: TBC 2018
Genre: Puzzle Platformer

Why is it so interesting? Stick It to the Man was weird as hell – a puzzle platformer with a Tim Burton-esque flavor that allowed you to read minds and use stickers to change the world around you. Now, Zoink Games returns with Flipping Death, a game about a recently deceased girl who can move through the worlds of the living and the dead, possessing humans to use their bodies to solve puzzles for you. It looks just as strange – and just a fun – as Stick It to the Man (which is also now available on Switch). Look for it later this year.

Next is Wargroove  in the upcoming Nintendo Switch games release dates list

Wargroove

Release date: TBC 2018
Genre: Strategy

Why is it so interesting? Intelligent Systems is off cranking out Fire Emblem games for Nintendo, meaning that its Advance Wars series has been left to languish in obscurity over the past few years. That doesn’t mean people have forgotten about it though, as Chucklefish games have taken the framework – cutesy sprites on big maps fighting in simple-but-deep turn-based battles – and applied it to their own fantasy world. With up to four players local and online multiplayer and over a dozen different campaigns, maybe we won’t need Advance Wars after all.

Terraria

Release date: TBC 2018
Genre: Action/Survival

Why is it so interesting? Terraria, a bit like Minecraft, is one of those games that’s on every platform possible. And for good reasons too. Terraria is a brilliant 2D sandbox game that tasks you with surviving in a procedurally generated world with nothing but a few basic tools to start out with. But the more you play, the cleverer you get and learn what you need to do to survive. It’s addictive and brilliant.

Pocket Rumble

Release date: TBC 2018
Genre: Fighting

Why is it so interesting? Pocket Rumble is so evocative of a specific platform – right on down to the scanlines – that anyone who owned a Pocket Color is likely overloading with nostalgia right now. But Pocket Rumble doesn’t seem to simply lean on its roots. By stripping down to a two-button control scheme, Pocket Rumble aims to streamline fighting game controls without sacrificing depth. It’ll arrive on Switch as a console exclusive sometime in March.

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom

Release date: TBC 2018
Genre: Platformer

Why is it so interesting? So, thanks to the weirdness surrounding the license for cult classic Sega series Wonder Boy, there are three of these games in development now, all from different studios and with varying degrees of involvement from the original creator, Ryuichi Nishizawa. Originally Kickstarted as a totally different game by French studio Game Atelier, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom features the same colorful, cartoony designs and weighty, retro metroidvania feel of Wonder Boy 3, but with a modern, crisp, high-definition look.

Hollow Knight

Release date: TBC 2018
Genre: Metroidvania

Why is it so interesting? Hollow Knight has quietly taken the PC world by storm, enrapturing players with its cartoony hand-drawn graphics, tight sidescrolling platformer action, and sprawling, interconnected worlds. Its dark caverns and evil, googley-eyed bugs evoke strains of Dark Souls as if imagined by Disney animators. Team Cherry is bringing their indie darling to consoles, and it’ll arrive first on Nintendo Switch – probably sooner than we think, now that the studio has hired an external team to help port it over ASAP. Hollow Knight’s deep gameplay seems perfect for portable play as much any TV or PC monitor, and I’m sure its fluid animations and vivid colors will pop on the Switch’s screen.

Runner 3

Release date: TBC 2018
Genre: Endless(ish) runner

Why is it so interesting? The Runner series is distilled simplicity. Your little 8-bit-looking dude runs forward automatically, and you tap buttons to leap over pits, slide under obstacles, and more. While endless runners are nothing new, the Runner series fills its gameplay with tons of interesting challenges and loads of secrets to find. Runner 3 looks to take things even further, introducing branching paths, items to buy, vehicles, and much more.

Kingdom: Two Crowns

Release date: TBC 2018
Genre: Strategy

Why is it so interesting? Don’t be fooled by its retro-inspired graphics – Kingdom is tough. It’s hard because it’s cryptic; this fusion of kingdom building and side-scrolling survival tells you basically nothing overtly, forcing you to figure out how all of its pieces fit together by paying attention to animation and audio cues and learning through repeated deaths and restarts. Whether that sounds frustrating as hell or an enigmatic delight is down to personal taste, but if that sounds like something you’re into, Kingdom is an intriguing and beguiling way to spend your time – and the new Two Crowns update will add co-op.
